There’s nothing like an engagement that can fuel the fire to get fit. Between finding the perfect gown, choosing the dinner menu and thinking about the photos that will last a lifetime, many brides are adding “shredding for the wedding” to their wedding planning to-do lists. If you are a bride looking to tone up for your big day, there are plenty of ways to get active. Check out some of our favorites.
- Go to a group class. Many fitness boutiques, like Pure Barre or Soul Cycle, are starting to create classes specifically for brides. In these classes, you’ll be surrounded by women going through the same thing as you so you can lift each other up, support each other, and be an unbiased ear to listen to any and all wedding complaints, all while shredding for the wedding.
- Join a local intramural sports team. Gather your bridal party and sign up for a social soccer, kickball or softball league to prep for the big day. Since you’re having fun, you won’t even realize you’re working out. Plus, the bridal party can get to know each other and bond before the wedding festivities begin.
- Work out in your own home. Pop in a fitness DVD or see what’s OnDemand and get moving. If you don’t find anything that sparks your interest through your cable provider, look online for videos. Many fitness gurus upload workouts to YouTube, most of them easy enough to do at home. Most brides tend to focus on toning up their arms, as the average bridal gown exposes that area. Tone your arms with this quick and easy workout: Using hand weights 3-8 lbs, complete 2-3 sets of the following moves for 10 reps each: shoulder presses, tricep kickbacks, hammer curls, lateral raises, tricep extensions and bicep curls. Feel the burn!
- Change up your diet. It’s no secret that along with a mixture of strength and cardio training, you need to watch what you eat in order to see results. To keep your metabolism running, eat lots of veggies, lean proteins, and whole grains throughout the day. Cut back on sugar, processed foods, and alcohol. Meal prepping is a great way to control what you’re eating if you are busy doing other wedding things, like booking DJs, transportation, and florists.
- Drink plenty of water and get lots of sleep. Aside from exercising, two of the key elements to staying healthy and fit is keeping hydrated and getting enough sleep. Carry a reusable water throughout the day so you are constantly drinking water. Create a sleep schedule that allows you to have a solid seven hours of sleep every single night. Not only will you will feel relaxed and refreshed – you’ll look great, too!
